Dear Colleague,

If your practice involves treating patients attention and working memory problems, including individuals with ADHD, I encourage you to learn more about a new approach for addressing these difficulties called Working Memory Training.

Working memory refers to the ability to hold information in mind for subsequent use, an ability that underlies many cognitive tasks. The use of working memory training to help individuals with ADHD is based on published research indicating that: 1) many individuals with ADHD have significant deficits in working memory;  2) working memory can be improved with intensive training; and, 3) improving working memory often yields meaningful declines in ADHD symptoms and enhanced functioning.

Working memory training for ADHD is being introduced to the US by Cogmed, a company affiliated with the Karolinska Institute in Sweden.  Led by Dr. Torkel Klingberg, scientists at the Karolinska Institute have developed a computer training program for working memory that has been tested in several published studies.  You can read a review of one of those studies in a prior issue of Attention Research Update.

To learn more about Cogmed Working Memory Training, and whether it would be beneficial to offer in your practice, just complete and submit the form below.  I will arrange to have Cogmed forward you an information package that includes a summary of published research, a reference list of published studies, and information about partnering with Cogmed to offer working memory training to your clients.

I believe you will find the information you receive to be interesting and informative, and I encourage you to learn more about this new intervention method.

Sincerely,

David Rabiner, Ph.D
